Chipspace

If you’ve been to MAGFest, you might have wandered past main stage wondering, “What else is going on around here?” You’d soon stumble upon a stage where everyone was playing music from vintage electronics, and some even adding guitars or lyrics on top. Welcome to Chipspace, the home of a blend between nostalgia and pushing the limits of old electronics to see what crazy music and sounds we can make from them.

Chipspace is where the chiptune community comes together to meet up, hang out, collaborate, and show off what they’ve made. Really; we have a bunch of time allotted for a chiptune-only open mic, which you can find the FAQ about it here.

Whenever there isn’t an open-mic, we have curated showcases of three artists from various chiptune communities! You can find out about who’s coming and throwing down for those showcases here.

The cherry on top is that you never know who will show up! Sometimes we’ll have big names from the community sneak in with a surprise set! Sometimes we’ll even get surprise sets from main stage acts collaborating with each other, or you might even see someone who ends up on main stage the next year! Surprisingly, these are more common than you’d think. After all, we once ran a ten-hour party until they forced us to shut down at 7 in the morning on Sunday, which sparked the concept of the Chip Rave.

Chipspace is the place to be, and if you aren’t there, you’re likely missing out on something cool.

Hallways & Jampods

Sometimes people bring their own instruments and play them in the hallway. We're strangely comfortable with this.

Jampods are our version of Magfest street performers - attendees driven to share their musical talents! Whether you are a solo performer, a small ensemble, chiptune artist, etc, we most likely have a Jampod location for you!

Look for Jampods on the convention center half of the venue, delineated by tape on the ground and signage detailing best practices.

NOTE: Remember that MAGFest is a community and collaborative environment, so if you choose to perform at a Jampod please be mindful of impeding traffic, or causing excessive noise. You can find more specific info in our FAQ and our rules or contact jampods@magfest.org with questions.

Jam Clinic

Musicians of all instruments and skill levels join together to improve their chops through directed workshops! The Jam Clinic is a safe place for musicians to have fun participating in guided jams or learn styles or grooves from professionals. We have themed jam hours as well as some less directed jamming time, so come hang for whatever styles suit you!

This year, you can expect guided jams, open jams, and jam sessions led by featured guests/VIPs!

Orchestra

Orchestra Department

Originally started in 2023 as the MAGFest Community Orchestra, MAG Orchestra has grown to become a distinct community of musicians passionate about all aspects of orchestral music in the video game space. The Orchestra Department puts on performances and content throughout Super MAGFest from participatory performances to educational workshops. It's become a highlight for attendees with different backgrounds and interests, many of whom consider the Orchestra Room their second home at MAG. 

Orchestra Content 

In addition to its core performance, Orchestra hosts engaging content for attendees of all musical skill levels throughout the event. Filter guidebook for “Orchestra Department” to find a wide variety of workshops, sightreadings, musical showcases, presentations, and social activities. Be sure to check out our entire community coming together for the big performance this year on Saturday 1/25 at 10:30am in the Atrium!

Interested in Joining the Orchestra?

Every year the MAGFest Community Orchestra showcases over 200 musicians (including choir) and features special guests in a magical spectacle for attendees and participants alike. The orchestra is welcoming to all skill levels – we just ask that you put forth an honest effort! The orchestra only requires participation in two rehearsals in person at MAGFest itself. If you're interested in joining, please ask one of our members, managers, or department heads for an invitation to the discord, where we work year round to prepare everybody to participate at next year’s MAGFest. No discord? No problem. You can also subscribe to our email newsletter by signing up.

Jamspace Studios

The Jam Space is now in headphones this year as Jamspace Studios! Still open mic, still a chance to jam with a band of friends or folks you just met, but now with the option to record yourselves. Sign up for a time slot and get the coolest souvenir - music you recorded yourself!

POSE Nightclub

The best labels & collectives are taking over POSE Nightclub once again in 2020! So much more than just a side stage, this fan-favorite part of the MAGFest experience features a festival-sized lineup (more than 50 artists!!) with a truly diverse spectrum of super-talented producers & DJs, from all corners of the VGM & EDM underground.

Our POSE events have rightfully earned their status as the ultimate "best-kept secret" of MAGFest thanks to the non-stop barrage of high-energy DJ sets and eclectic sampling of talent, along with the exclusive nature of the venue itself. Expect nothing but the best of the best, and truly-- trust us on this-- the wildest, craziest party in all of MAGFest!

This year, we’re featuring STACKED lineups from: TINY WAVES / PARTY WITH YOUR FRIENDS (Saturday), DESKPOP / NICE CREW (Friday), KAWAII BASS / OTAKUS WITH ATTITUDE (Thursday). (See flyer for full lineup of all 50+ artists!)

Thu, Fri & Sat: 5PM - 2AM. FREE ENTRY, AGES 21+.

(The entrance to POSE Nightclub is located in the main lobby, immediately to the right of the front doors. Valid ID is required to enter the elevator area, and then you will be taken to the very top floor!)
